Description

Mountain Java Standard Medium Dark Beans are designed to deliver a bold, satisfying cup that still feels smooth and easy to drink.

For this profile, our roasting team pushes the roast deeper than Standard Medium to create more body and intensity. Acidity is softened, sweetness is developed, and the cup leans towards classic, comforting dark flavours. Compared to our Premium Medium Dark line, the Standard range uses a wider mix of screen sizes and visual grades, making it more cost-effective for high-volume use while still delivering a clean, dependable flavour.

In the cup, you can expect:

  • Fuller, richer body that feels strong and satisfying

  • Low, rounded acidity for a smooth, non-sharp taste

  • Flavour notes of dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and light roasted caramel, with a lingering, slightly roasty finish

Standard Medium Dark Beans are ideal for espresso machines, moka pots, and drip brewers where you want the coffee to stay present in milk and sugar. They are especially suitable for lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, and iced coffees in cafés, offices, and restaurants that serve a lot of milk-based drinks.

Sourcing & roasting approach

Mountain Java works with partner producers growing Arabica varieties Caturra, Typica, and Bourbon using washed processing. The beans are:

  • Sorted to remove major defects

  • Dried and rested before transport

  • Separated into premium and standard lines based on size and visual grading

Standard Medium Dark Beans are roasted in small batches, allowing us to control time, temperature, and development stage for consistency. We extend the roast enough to build a heavier body and deeper sweetness, without pushing into an overly burnt or smoky profile.

After roasting, the beans are rested and packed to protect aroma and flavour during storage and delivery. The result is a strong, trustworthy coffee that baristas can use daily without complicated adjustments.

Grind Options

By default, all Mountain Java coffees are supplied as whole beans to preserve maximum freshness and give you full control over your brewing. If you prefer, we can grind your coffee for you at the time of packing. You can choose from the following grind levels to match your brewing method:

  • Fine Grind – Very small, powdery particles. Best for espresso machines and moka pots, where water passes through quickly and needs more surface area for proper extraction.

  • Medium Grind – Similar to regular sand. Ideal for drip coffee makers and most pour-over brewers, giving a balanced cup with good sweetness and clarity.

  • Medium-Coarse Grind – Slightly larger than standard medium, with a more textured feel. Works well for pour-over cones, AeroPress with longer brews, and immersion-style brewers, offering a clean cup with softer acidity.

  • Coarse Grind – Large, chunky particles. Best for French press, cold brew, and long-immersion methods, where a slower extraction prevents over-brewing and keeps the cup smooth.

Common Questions

1. What kind of coffee beans does Mountain Java use?
Mountain Java roasts 100% Arabica coffee beans selected from partners we trust. Each lot is chosen for clean flavour, stability, and suitability for our different roast profiles, from light to dark.

2. Are the beans sold as whole beans or ground?
By default, all Mountain Java coffees are supplied as whole beans to keep them as fresh and aromatic as possible. If you prefer, we can grind the beans for you at the time of packing in fine, medium, medium-coarse, or coarse so they match your brewing method.

3. Which brewing methods are these beans suitable for?
Mountain Java beans can be used with a wide range of brewing methods, including espresso machines, moka pots, pour-over drippers, drip coffee makers, French press, AeroPress, and cold brew. Each product page suggests typical uses for that roast (for example, more suitable for black coffee or milk-based drinks), and you can always contact us for personalised recommendations.

4. What is the difference between Mountain Java Premium and Mountain Java Standard beans?
Mountain Java Premium coffees are selected from more uniform and higher-graded lots, giving greater clarity and refinement in the cup—ideal for specialty-focused cafés and coffee enthusiasts.
Mountain Java Standard coffees use a broader selection of grades, offering a more budget-friendly choice for high-volume cafés, restaurants, offices, and everyday home use, while still maintaining clean, reliable flavour.

5. What pack sizes are available?
We currently pack Mountain Java coffees in 250 g, 500 g, and 1 kg sizes. These options are designed to suit both home brewers and businesses, without holding stock for too long and compromising freshness.

6. How fresh will the coffee be when I receive it?
Mountain Java roasts coffee regularly in small batches and packs the beans soon after roasting. Every bag is labelled with a roast date, so you know exactly when it was roasted. For best flavour, we recommend using the coffee within 4–6 weeks of opening, depending on how it is stored and whether it is kept as whole beans or ground.

7. How should I store my Mountain Java coffee beans?
Keep your coffee in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Reseal the original bag properly after each use or transfer the beans to an airtight container. Try to avoid moving coffee repeatedly in and out of the refrigerator or freezer, as temperature changes can create condensation and affect the flavour.

8. How do I choose the right roast level for me?
As a simple guide:

  • Light & Medium roasts highlight more of the coffee’s natural character and livelier taste—great for black coffee and most filter methods.
  • Medium Dark & Dark roasts deliver fuller body, deeper sweetness, and stronger roast character—often preferred for espresso and milk-based drinks.

If you are unsure, let us know what equipment you use and how you like your coffee, and the Mountain Java team can suggest a suitable roast.

9. Do you supply coffee beans for cafés, restaurants, and offices?
Yes. Mountain Java regularly supplies beans to cafés, restaurants, hotels, offices, and other businesses. For regular or bulk orders, we can recommend appropriate roasts, help with brew recipes, arrange roasting and delivery schedules, and discuss pricing based on volume and frequency.

10. Can you help me dial in my coffee (espresso or filter)?
If you need starting points for espresso recipes, grind settings, or filter brew ratios, you can contact the Mountain Java team. We’re happy to share practical guidelines tailored to your machine, roast level, and preferred brewing style so you can get the best out of every bag.
